The O-Line & LE-Line

Comprised of two separate lines combined, the O and LE Lines were once a major link between Winston-Salem and Charlotte. With the downturn in traffic, however, the lines were reduced to nothing more than branchline spurs. Another contributing factor to this is the abandonment of the northern portion of the LE-Line (mileposts 0 – 10) and the railbanking of a portion of the O-Line (mileposts 20 – 26). Nowadays, the line is operated out of Charlotte for the southern portion and Barber Junction for the northern and middle portions.
